Orange over Violet - 1968 shows two wide colour bands laid one over the other. The upper field carries a warm orange tone, and the lower band runs a deeper violet.

The paint spreads and thins where the two tones meet. The hand of Mark Rothko leaves the brushwork visible as shifting pressure across the sheet.

This fine art print sits in a white frame whose clean edge sets the orange band apart from the violet field below. On a kitchen wall near the sink, the orange tone stays bright under the overhead light while the violet band reads darker at the counter.
