About this work
Wide bands of colour move across the sheet in Russian Easter - 1979. A darker band runs through the middle, and the lighter edges leave open space on the sides. The marks sit flat and the ground stays visible in places. The painted shapes do not fill the whole sheet.
You hang the fine art print on a wall with steady light from one side. The matte surface keeps the tones even and stops shine when the lamp moves. A wood frame beside a desk joins the painted bands to the room without drawing attention away from the image.
In a study the printed bands sit above the desk and read well from the doorway. From the chair you see the thin lines between the colour fields and notice how the open side holds the eye.
