About this work
Sackcloth - 1953 shows a stretch of rough fabric laid on the surface. The picture keeps the cloth plain and lets the weave stay visible. Alberto Burri worked with burlap and stitched cloth in this period. The surface looks worn and uneven across the sheet.
This fine art print uses matte paper so the grey and bone tones do not shine under a lamp. The frame finish can follow the room, a light frame on a dark wall or a dark frame on a pale wall. A wood frame beside wooden furniture also works. The paper holds the small tears and seams without glare.
It fits a hallway wall near the stairs where the light falls across the cloth. From the bottom step you see the broad fabric shape, closer you notice the stitched lines and torn edges.
