About this work
A compote dish and a glass meet on a surface within Still Life with Compote and Glass - 1914. Painted planes lean against one another. Some colour areas stay light, others sit darker beside them. The contrast keeps the two objects separate without using clear outlines. The composition reads as a study in tone and passing form.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. A black frame gives the picture a firm line at the edge. That dark border holds the painted planes in place and keeps the lighter colour areas from spreading off the sheet.
In a dining room, the glass catches the window glare first. The dish sits lower on the table and reads as a quiet solid shape. From the doorway you notice the dark frame before the painted forms.
