Untitled - 1979 by Ray Parker sets down a pale ground with bands of colour laid across it. The paint sits flat and the edges stay loose. It belongs to the post war abstract painting period, when colour field painting gave shape to simple forms.

The fine art frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black. A white finish keeps the bands open beside the picture. A dark wood finish places a firm line around the colour and holds the edge steady on the wall.

On a bedroom wall the bands read as wide stripes before you reach the bed. From the doorway you notice the soft ground first. Close to the frame you see where one band meets the next.
