About this work
Untitled [Blue, Green, and Brown] - 1952 by Mark Rothko sits on the sheet as stacked colour fields. The upper band holds a blue tone, the middle runs green, and the lower field settles into brown. The painted edges blur where one colour meets the next.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The paper is matte, so the blue and green fields stay flat and there is no shine under a lamp.
On a bedroom wall above the bed, the blue field catches the morning light first. From the doorway you notice the green band before the brown lower field, and the blurred edge between them stays quiet against the painted plaster.
