Untitled SFP94-39 SFF 1714 shows a few thin colour lines laid over an open field. The brush moves fast, leaving a light edge where the paint thins out. The artist Sam Francis often worked with open space and quick gestures. You can see where the brush pressed harder and where it lifted.

The fine art print keeps the painted surface matte, so the thin lines stay soft and the open areas do not shine under a lamp. A light frame sits on a dark wall, or a dark frame on a pale wall, or a wood frame beside wooden furniture.

It hangs on a stairwell wall where the light from the landing lands flat on the surface. From the bottom step you notice the thin lines first, then the open space around them.
