About this work
Yellow band - 1956 is a colour field painting by Mark Rothko that uses broad painted blocks of tone. The upper field holds a warm yellow wash that fades into a darker band below. The edges blur and the paint is layered in soft horizontal strokes.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang with a metal hanger fitted to the back. It goes straight onto a nail or screw on the wall. No separate frame is needed. The paper is matte so the yellow tones stay flat and do not shine under a lamp.
It works well on the wall beside a front door where the morning light falls on the yellow field. From the hall you see the broad painted bands and the soft edges clearly.
