About this work
Four thin lines cross each other and bend out of shape in 4 Self-distorting Grids - 1965. The marks look drawn with a steady hand and a small tool, the way Francois Morellet often made his systems.
The fine art print comes ready to hang. The lines shift where they meet, so the grid never stays even. The picture stays quiet because the marks are simple and the spacing is even.
The paper is matte, so the grey tones stay soft and the lines do not shine under a lamp. The white frame sits on a pale wall near the top edge, where the lines read against the plaster without pulling the eye down. From the kitchen doorway you see the bent lines first, then the regular spacing as you stop by the table.
