About this work
New England October 1957 1957 shows a busy field of reds and yellows pushed together by hard brush marks. The paint sits in loose layers, with some areas thin and others thick. The picture reads like a late autumn landscape turned into a fast study of colour and movement.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. Grace Hartigan often worked this way, building a scene from quick decisions rather than careful drawing. The white frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall.
The wood frame option warms the surface, and the black frame option sits down against the bright marks. You notice the piece from the dining room table when you look toward the far wall. The thick paint catches the room light, and the frame edge cuts a hard line against the pale plaster.
