Orange, Red, Umber — Fine Art

Orange and red fields stretch across the sheet, set against an umber ground.

The flat colour planes meet at hard edges, the kind Karl Benjamin used in his abstract paintings from the California movement. Fine art without a clear title means the picture stands on its own colours.

The white frame finish gives this image a clean border, so the bright orange reads against the darker umber without a second tone breaking it. You notice the red band first on a kitchen wall near the sink, then the umber ground as you wash dishes.
