Abrir El Cubo Y Encontrar la Vida — Fine Art

Abrir El Cubo Y Encontrar la Vida shows a search through painted space, with forms that seem to open and shift inside the picture. Roberto Matta built his paintings from layered strokes and unexpected shapes that feel like a world being found.

The paper is a fine art print on matte stock. That finish makes the softer colours stay flat when the light hits from the side, which suits the way the marks overlap here. The frame finish can follow the room, so a light frame on a dark wall keeps the picture loose rather than boxed in.

It works above a desk in a study where the light comes from one side. From the chair you notice the small changes in tone before the shapes, and the dark forms hold the eye without crowding the work surface.
