About this work
A red oval rests on a pale ground in Red Oval 1920. Wassily Kandinsky painted this as a study of simple colour against empty space.
The oval reads as a solid form pushed to one side. Thin lines cross the field and break the quiet surface.
A fine art print keeps the red clean and the background matte, so the tone does not flatten under indoor light. A dark frame on a pale wall keeps the oval sitting forward without competing. In a hall way with narrow light, you notice the red first and the thin lines only when you pass the depth.
