Kurt Schwitters was a German Dada artist and inventor of Merz, a personal form of collage and assemblage that transformed discarded tickets, wrappers, and urban debris into poetic artworks of great visual richness. His ambitious Merzbau - a total environment of accumulated objects - was one of the first installation artworks.
