Sam Gilliam
Sam Gilliam was an American painter and a leading figure of the Washington Color School, celebrated for his radical Drape paintings in which unstretched, colour-saturated canvases were hung in folds and cascades from gallery ceilings, freeing painting from the wall and the rectangular frame. His innovations profoundly expanded the possibilities of Colour Field painting.
