About this work
The title 6.3.66 - 1966 points to a work in the abstract painting practice of John Hoyland. Broad painted fields and sharp edges sit on the surface. Colour bands and crossing strokes build the picture. The image holds a few clear zones of tone.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. A light frame on a dark wall lets the painted zones stay separate. A dark frame on a pale wall gives the edges more weight. The paper is matte so the greys stay soft under a lamp.
It fits on a hallway wall where you pass it on the way out. From the corner you see the big colour areas first. Step closer and the small pencil marks show. The work reads well at that distance.
