A tangle of ochre and black lines collides at the center. This is 60-t-18, Martin Barre’s 1960 drawing that refuses to settle into geometry. Charcoal strokes slash across the paper, some thick as ropes, others so faint they vanish at the edges. The ochre bleeds into the white ground, creating halos that push the black lines forward. No single shape dominates; instead, the marks argue, overlap, and dissolve into one another. Hang it above a narrow console in a hallway, where the tension of the lines can pull the eye through tight spaces without cluttering them.
