About this work
A Bit of Acoma New Mexico shows a quiet stretch of adobe buildings with flat roofs sitting in a dry landscape. The eye enters at the cluster of houses and rests there, with open ground around the edges.
Thomas Moran painted this scene in his usual landscape style, using broad colour areas and a clear horizon line. The print comes as a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel.
The matte surface keeps the warm earth tones even under indoor light, and the frame adds a solid edge to the soft horizon. It looks settled above a kitchen bench. From that seat you see the roof shapes first, then the thin band of distant land.
