About this work
A Perfect Equal Area I - 1960 shows bands of colour laid out in a measured grid by Alfred Jensen. The painted squares sit side by side in a steady rhythm, with each field set against the next in a flat layer.
This fine art print is set in a frame with a back panel, so the image stays flat against the wall and the edges stay covered. The matte surface holds the painted colour without a shine, and the frame gives the print a finished edge you can place straight away.
In a hallway between two doors, the equal bands read as a quiet run of shapes from one end to the other. From the landing you see the sequence of colour fields, and closer to the wall you notice the painted divisions between them.
