Abraham — Fine Art

Abraham by Barnett Newman uses a broad band of blue against a pale ground. The paint sits in a single flat area with hard edges. The lower field shows a steady tone without any line.

A tall narrow shape rises from the middle. The work comes from the colour field painting practice of the artist. The print uses a fine art matte paper that holds the blue without shine. Light from a lamp does not catch on the surface.

A wood frame can sit beside a desk or a bookshelf. On a dining room wall the blue band reads from the table. You see the flat edge of the paint first, then the pale ground behind it. The room stays calm around the image.
