About this work
Adios 1969 by Edward Ruscha sets a single word across a plain ground. The lettering reads flat and even, with the edge of each letter held clean against the background.
Across the room the text reads as one shape. Up close the surface shows the steady hand behind the letters. The fine art print uses a white frame, and that frame edge sits plain against the lettering without pulling the eye away from the word.
A white frame keeps the ground feeling open and lets the text hold the wall. It works well in a hallway where you pass it daily. From the turn in the corridor you see the word first, then the even field behind it.
