About this work
Apoplectic Cardinals Harvesting Tomatoes on the Shore of the Red Sea Study of the Aurora Borealis shows three red figures bent over a line of fruit on a sandy strip beside a flat blue sea. Alphonse Allais draws the scene with quick outlines and a few colour fills, in the same humorous vein as his other jokes in paint.
A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel holds the work on the wall. The matte surface softens the red of the figures and keeps the sky flat.
The frame keeps the edges clean when you hang it with the ready to hang option. It hangs well on a narrow landing wall above a radiator. From the top of the stairs you see the three bent shapes, and the blue band of sea below them.
