About this work
Apricot Ripple 1968 by Gene Davis sets stacked colour bands across the sheet. The bands step from warm apricot to softer peach, then turn to neutral tones. The eye moves along the horizontal stripes, then rests where the tones thin out. The rhythm of the bands carries most of the weight.
This fine art print uses a matte paper so the apricot tones stay soft and do not shine under a lamp. A white frame gives the banded surface a clean edge on the wall.
In a kitchen, the warm peach bands read from the counter near the morning light. From the doorway the rhythm of the stripes holds the eye before it drops to the sink.
