Be II — Fine Art

Be II shows two broad fields of colour split by a thin vertical band. The upper field is a dark red, the lower one a lighter grey red. A long vertical mark cuts down the middle.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The title Be II fits the shape and the split. Barnett Newman built his work around these simple blocks and the narrow band that divides them. This print picks up that same idea.

The hanger on the back is a metal strip that goes straight onto a nail or screw. It goes up on the wall without a separate frame. On a plain wall, the two colour fields and the dark line read as one wide mark. From across the room the band seems to hold the page together.
