About this work
Berkeley #32 shows a painted field of colour with a few drawn lines laid on top. Richard Diebenkorn built these pictures with broad strokes and thin pencil marks. The colours sit flat on the page, with some edges left open. You can see the hand of the artist in the uneven lines.
The fine art print uses matte paper so the colours stay even and the surface does not shine under a lamp. The frame finish can follow the room, with a light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture.
In a study room, the print hangs on the side wall near the desk. From the doorway you see the broad painted bands first, then the small pencil marks when you stand close. The room stays uncluttered and the picture fits without crowding the space.
