About this work
Blue Umber - 1979 by Yun Hyong-keun shows two broad colour bands laid down in dark tone on a pale ground. The bands sit one above the other and the paint spreads in thin areas between them.
The blue runs through the umber and the field stays quiet on the paper. The artist worked with oil stick and paint on a flat surface, a practice tied to Korean monochrome painting of the late twentieth century.
This fine art print comes set in a frame with a back panel and hangs ready to hang when the option is used. You see the paint layers more clearly when you stand a little away from the image. The piece fits a hallway wall with a steady lamp and the dark bands hold the eye at the end of the hall.
