About this work
Borrowed Dream, 1992- by Helen Frankenthaler shows broad colour fields that blend into one another without hard edges. Thin washes spread across the surface and layer with a quiet, even feel. Helen Frankenthaler worked with this soak stain method through much of her career.
The fine art print sits on matte paper that keeps the colour flat and stops the surface from reflecting light. A light frame or a wood frame can match the room instead of drawing the eye away from the painting.
On a pale wall above a sofa the big shapes read from across the room. Stand close and the edges of each wash become softer and less defined. The picture does not need a bright lamp to stay readable.
