About this work
Brushes 1969 shows thick paint laid down in heavy strokes. Dark shapes sit near the bottom, leaving open space above. The eye moves across the rough surface and rests on the blunt forms. Philip Guston painted this kind of scene with blunt tools and thick pigment.
The paper is matte, so the paint edges stay soft under a lamp. A metal hanger is fitted to the back. It goes straight onto a nail or screw. You do not need a separate frame to put this fine art on the wall.
It fits a quiet bedroom wall with pale paint. From the bed you see the dark shapes first, then the rough paint lines above them.
