Burnt Over Forest 1916 shows a woodland scene after a fire, with dark trunks standing among new growth. Tom Thomson worked in thick paint strokes that leave the surface rough and uneven. The marks run across the picture in short fast lines.

A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel holds these marks in place. The paper is matte so the dark greens stay flat and do not shine under a lamp. The frame sits on the wall and the back panel keeps the print flat.

You see the rough paint strokes from across the room, and the small lines up close. It works above a sofa where the door light falls on the left side. From that distance the trunks read as dark vertical bars.
