Canto XVII

Canto XVII breaks the sheet into broad colour fields with a narrow vertical band running through the middle. The bands hold the eye while the flat colour around them stays quiet.

This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. Barnett Newman painted in this way across many works. The shape reads clearly from the far side of the room.

Step closer and the soft edges of the colour fields become more visible. A metal hanger is fitted to the back so the sheet goes up on a nail without a frame. The surface stays matte, so the colour fields do not shine under a lamp.
