Clos

Clos - 2003 opens on a quiet field with a few dark bands laid over it. The shapes sit side by side without joining.

The pale ground stays flat and lets the darker tone carry the picture. Ralston Crawford built this kind of hard edge painting with flat colour and clean cuts.

The fine art print keeps the same flat look on a matte sheet. A soft wall light in a hallway keeps the bands even and the lettering reads plainly near a coat hook.
