Composition 22 — Fine Art

Composition 22 shows bands and circles laid over each other on a flat ground. The marks press down with even weight across the sheet. Sonia Delaunay set the forms side by side, so each colour sits next to its neighbour without blending. The shapes read as flat patches rather than drawn lines.

The fine art frame finishes in white, wood, dark wood or black, and the frame edge sits clear against these flat colour fields. A white frame keeps the bands apart, while a dark wood frame pulls the edge back from the picture.

On a long hallway wall the bands run along the plaster line. From the door you see the whole set of shapes, and near the end of the hall the edge of the frame meets the corner.
