Composition 37 — Fine Art

Composition 37 turns a flat page into a set of colour bands and curves that cross one another. Sonia Delaunay worked in the orphism movement, building rhythmic shapes from strong tones. The print keeps the marks clear and the edges sharp.

You notice the repeated curves first, then the small overlaps where one band passes over another. The order of tones moves across the picture without a single dominant shape. A fine art print like this keeps the flat colour areas even and the black lines clean.

In a narrow hallway, the bands run along the length of the wall and the eye follows them from the coat rack to the door. The darker bands hold their tone under the ceiling light, while the pale areas stay dull.
