About this work
Composition IV 1911 shows a field of mixed marks, with black lines and coloured patches set against a light ground.
The strokes run at different angles, some short and some long, with a few shapes placed at the edges. Wassily Kandinsky worked with line and colour as separate parts of a composition.
The fine art frame in white gives the sheet a clean edge on the wall, so the black lines and small patches stay clear without a dark border pulling the eye inward. It fits well on a kitchen wall near the sink, where you see the black lines first from the doorway and the small colour patches only when you stand at the counter.
