About this work
Long cuts slice across a dark ground, leaving a thin strip of white near each edge. The shape of Concept Spatiale - 1959 reads from the hallway as a dark field with narrow breaks. Up close, the cuts show as sharp lines in the material.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. Lucio Fontana made these cuts to open the surface and let light pass through the gap. Lucio Fontana worked with this kind of spatial idea in his practice.
The white edge keeps the cuts close to the surface and makes the narrow gaps easier to read. It fits a study wall beside a desk lamp. You notice the dark field first, then the white line in the cut, then the quiet edge of the frame against the plaster.
