About this work
Delphic Shibboleth - 1959 shows a single broad mark running across the sheet. The line starts dark and thins toward the edge, leaving a pale ground behind it.
The tone shifts without hard edges, so the eye stays on the shape of the line. Theodoros Stamos often worked with sweeping gestures in this way.
The paper is matte, which keeps the fading tone from turning shiny. A metal hanger on the back lets this fine art print go straight onto a nail. It fits a narrow wall in a dining room, where the light falls across the line and the thin end catches the room.
