About this work

Distance

Green shapes stand out against a soft blue ground in Distance by Tarsila do Amaral. The picture holds wide colour fields with plain edges, and the eye rests on the green forms set against the cooler tone around them.

The picture arrives as a fine art print set in a frame, with a back panel behind the sheet. The matte paper keeps the blues quiet and stops the green from shining under a lamp.

On a dining room wall, the broad shapes sit low and the room feels steady. From the doorway you notice the green first, then the blue plane behind it.
