About this work
Dreaming Story at Warlugulong - 1976 uses long parallel bands of ochre and pale red that run across the sheet. The marks sit close together and leave a narrow strip of cream between them.
Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri worked in this way for the Western Desert painting movement. He laid the paint in a steady hand so the bands read as a single field.
This fine art print keeps those colours soft on matte paper so the cream ground stays quiet and the ochre bands do not shine under a lamp. A dark frame on a pale wall lets the bands stand out without pulling the eye. On a hallway landing wall the bands run along the length of the passage and the cream gap stays clear from a distance.
