About this work
A loose wash of pigment spreads across the paper surface in Europa, 1957-. Helen Frankenthaler let thin paint soak into the ground so the colour sits inside the sheet rather than on top. The edges stay soft and a few darker pools gather where the paint slowed down.
This fine art print shows the same stain like look on matte paper. The surface does not throw back a lamp, so the pale areas stay even and the darker stains read as depth. A light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture lets the frame finish follow the room.
On a study wall the print sits above a desk. From the chair you see a broad band of stained colour. The darker patches stay in view as you turn a page.
