About this work
Evening Glow 1972 shows short rectangular strokes arranged in bands across the sheet. The paint sits in rhythmic rows of red, orange and yellow with a softer blue band below.
Alma Woodsey Thomas laid each stroke by hand, leaving the edges slightly uneven. The marks move across the surface in a steady pattern. A fine art print keeps the flat colour and the hand laid rhythm on paper.
The frame can follow the room, a light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture. It works above a desk in a study, where the warm bands read from the chair and the small gaps between strokes show at your desk. The blue band stays calm at the bottom while the orange rows sit higher on the sheet.
