Exile by Jimmy Ernst (1974)

A single, angular form drifts against a field of muted ochre. This is Exile, Jimmy Ernst’s 1974 meditation on displacement and silence. The shape—part arrow, part broken blade—casts a faint shadow, as if hovering just above the surface. Thin black lines fracture the background into uneven planes, while patches of raw canvas peek through, raw and unprimed. The palette stays close to earth: ochre, slate, and the occasional flash of rust. Hang it where the light shifts slowly, like above a low bookshelf or beside a quiet reading chair.
