Two vertical bands of color lean together like silent figures. Faces, Morris Louis called this 1959 painting, though no eyes or mouths appear.
Thinned cobalt blue and burnt sienna bleed into raw linen, their edges softened by gravity. The left band holds a faint gradient, as if lit from within, while the right remains opaque, a solid presence. Neither color touches the canvas edge, leaving a quiet border of untouched fabric.
