Falling Star L. L249 — Fine Art

Falling Star L. L249 starts with a dark shape that drops toward the bottom edge. The rest of the sheet stays open, with loose colour running around that shape. Sam Francis often used open space to give each mark room. The shape reads like a falling point rather than a solid form.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The print sits on matte paper so the dark shape stays flat and the lighter runs do not shine under a lamp.

Hang it on a wall you cross often, with light coming from one side. From a doorway the shape settles in the lower half. Up close you see the paint runs around it. The open ground keeps the eye moving across the sheet.
