About this work
For Helen and Nicole - 1978 shows broad painted bands laid over a quieter ground. The marks sit in a loose horizontal rhythm across the sheet. Ronnie Landfield built this kind of colour field painting with steady sweeps of paint and a few hard edges.
The fine art print keeps the paint surface readable. A light frame on a dark wall makes the bands stand out, while a wood frame beside wooden furniture keeps the room tied together. The paper holds the greys without shine under a lamp.
It works above a low bookshelf in a study. From the desk you see the big colour shapes first, and the small pencil lines only when you move closer.
