About this work
For William Blake - 1968 by Ronnie Landfield presents a broad field of colour with a few painted bands laid over it. The colours stay in a cool range, with a darker band running across the sheet.
The picture comes from the abstract painting practice of the post war period, when painters used colour fields and simple bands. This fine art print is set in a frame with a back panel.
The matte surface keeps the colour flat, so the painted bands do not catch a glare. You can see it in a dining room on the wall beside the table. From the chair you notice the band first, then the quiet field behind it.
