About this work
Forest Edge shows a band of trees meeting open ground, with a few dark lines cutting through pale colour patches. The scene sits right at the meeting of wood and field. Wassily Kandinsky often used such simple borders in his abstract painting practice.
The fine art paper holds the grey and green tones without shine, so the soft marks stay quiet in a lit room. A light frame on a dark wall lets the pale ground stand out, while a wood frame beside a shelf keeps the picture close to the room.
It works above a desk in a study, where the eye reads the tree line first and the small patches later. From the chair you notice the quiet edge again and again.
