About this work
From the Edge of Darkness - 1992 opens on a dark field with faint light traces moving across the page. Richard Pousette-Dart built his abstract work with layered brushstrokes and thin lines that hold a quiet, searching mood. The painted surface stays uneven under the eye.
The fine art frame in white gives the image a clean edge on the wall. The white surround separates the dark tones from the room so the lighter marks stay clear. You see the painted shapes, then the frame, then the wall behind it.
It fits a narrow hallway wall where moving light catches the uneven paint. From the far end of the hall you read the big dark shapes, closer you notice the thin pencil lines at the sides.
