Fruitful Place 1966 takes its place among the weaver made pictures of the mid twentieth century.

Dots and short lines cluster in a loose grid, each mark placed by hand. Lenore Tawney built much of her work from thread and open weave, and that method shows here in the counting of small units across the sheet.

The fine art frame in dark wood sits close to the picture, so the solid edge keeps the soft grid from running off the wall. It works on a bedroom wall near a reading chair, where the little marks show from a seated distance and the white dots stand out against the darker frame.
