About this work
Grand Entrance - 1987 by Nicholas Krushenick opens with a tight cluster of painted bars on a plain ground. The eye lands on the bold block and then moves into the quieter space beside it. Nicholas Krushenick built his pictures from flat colour planes and hard edges. These painted forms sit with clear weight against the empty area.
The paper is matte, so the flat colour planes stay even and the white frame keeps the edge clear without glare. You see the painted bars without shine under a lamp.
This fine art print works well on a hallway wall near the stairs. From the first step you take the painted blocks read clearly, and the frame edge sits neat against the wall.
