About this work
Graphic With Cocoa by Dieter Roth (1968)
A grid of squares, some filled with text, others with smudges and smears. This is Graphic With Cocoa, a piece that plays with the boundaries between print and painting. The artwork's title hints at its process: cocoa, a humble and unexpected medium, mingles with ink on paper. The result is a field of browns, from deep umber to pale tan, punctuated by the stark contrast of black type. The text, though fragmented, suggests a narrative waiting to be deciphered. The overall effect is one of controlled chaos, a balance between order and spontaneity. The poster's earthy tones and textural richness make it a compelling focal point in a study or library. It invites closer inspection, rewarding the viewer with new details over time.
